"Thinking in plaid"

A long time ago, I heard the following:

When a politician, especially one running for office gets asked, ’what is you favorite color?’ The best answer he can give is ‘plaid’. This keeps the folks who love red from feeling left out. Same thing holds true for green, blue, etc.

This makes a lot of sense; not wanting to step on anyone’s toes intentionally is a good idea. Especially for anyone who writes blogs, or publishes websites regardless of what part of the world you live in. Remember your audience of readers could be any race, religion, nationality, background, etc. ‘Writing in plaid’ just makes too much sense to not do it.

After realizing this, I took it one step further. This is ‘thinking in plaid’. Sort of like thinking ‘outside the box’ in a way. Again, regardless of who I am, or who you are, people are people. We get judged by the company we keep locally, and by the country we’re from internationally. The company we can change easy enough, but the country we’re a citizen of, not so easy.

I view the massive migration of people going on all over the world as perhaps the American Indians did centuries ago. Folks just naturally want to find a better life and be able to provide for there families, to have a better life, to get ahead, avoid oppression, and so forth. Not categorizing or judging anyone has had a calming effect in my life, and I’m sure it will do the same you. Go on, give it a try and see for yourself. Start ‘thinking in plaid’… ALL THE BEST!!!

A word about advertising...

About 25 years ago, long before the internet became what it is today, a friend told me, ‘if you don’t advertise, you’re still advertising’. I asked him to explain. He told me ‘not advertising’ means you either don’t want any business or you’re going out of business.

This is a true story, He sold those big satellite dishes and had a video rental center right there together where he could monitor & run both... Former businesses he gave up for the more lucrative up to date ones. And he was 100% right. He had stuff people wanted, and he got the word out. He did very well.

OK, not everyone who saw his ad ran over & bought something, but stats are stats. On and offline. Let’s say you are noticed by 10,000 and 10% are curious, now 1000 think on it. Half decide against it, 500 give it some more thought and then look into it. Finally 10% of these people go for it and you’ve gotten 50 customers.

Only one last hurdle now, they have to be OK with the product and price. Half of them say “just looking”. But you do get 25 buyers you wouldn’t have without advertising.

Still, it takes money, to make money! The satellite dishes didn’t pop out of the ground like mushrooms. The VHS & ‘BETA’ videos didn’t fall out of the sky.

Forget the expense I’ve gone through launching a Traffic Exchange, but know this; all the others I’m in, I’ve changed the ‘signs’ to make SHP a success for us all.
